Connect Your Agent
Set up Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode, and custom AI agents with AgentOnboard Remote MCP.
AgentOnboard connects AI agents directly to partner APIs using our hosted Remote MCP server (https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp).
There is zero local CLI installation required on your machine. You simply give your agent access to the get_token tool, and the agent autonomously exchanges your API key for short-lived, domain-scoped session tokens.
Universal Quick Setup
If your agent environment supports terminal commands and the agent skills standard, copy this single prompt into your agent:
Set up AgentOnboard:
1. Install the agent skill: npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -y
2. Ask me for my AgentOnboard API key (starts with aon_live_). Once provided, configure the AgentOnboard Remote MCP server at https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp using Bearer authentication.
3. Call the whoami tool to verify connection.
Rules: never echo my raw key in chat and never commit it to git.Claude Code
You can configure Claude Code directly via its built-in MCP manager, or paste the setup prompt.
1. Direct Setup Command
Run in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user agentonboard https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_API_KEY>"Then install the skill in your project or global environment:
npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -yRestart Claude Code or run /exit to reload MCP tools.
2. One-Shot Setup Prompt
Paste into Claude Code:
Set up AgentOnboard:
1. Run: claude mcp add --transport http --scope user agentonboard https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <key>"
2. Run: npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -y
Ask me for my API key first, run the commands, and verify with the whoami tool.Cursor
Cursor connects to Remote MCP via JSON configuration in your global or project settings.
1. Manual Configuration
Add the AgentOnboard Remote MCP server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (global) or .cursor/mcp.json (workspace):
{
"mcpServers": {
"agentonboard": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_API_KEY>"
}
}
}
}Install the skill in your project terminal:
npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -yReload Cursor window or reopen Cursor to initialize the MCP connection.
2. One-Shot Setup Prompt
Paste into Cursor Composer or Chat:
Set up AgentOnboard:
1. Add AgentOnboard Remote MCP to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"agentonboard": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer <key>"
}
}
}
}
2. Run in terminal: npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -y
Ask me for my API key before writing ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Never echo the key back into chat.Codex CLI
1. Direct Command
Run in your terminal:
export AGENTONBOARD_API_KEY="<YOUR_API_KEY>"
codex mcp add agentonboard --url https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp --bearer-token-env-var AGENTONBOARD_API_KEY
npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -yReload with /mcp or restart session.
2. One-Shot Setup Prompt
Paste into Codex:
Set up AgentOnboard:
1. Ask me for my AgentOnboard API key.
2. Run: codex mcp add agentonboard --url https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp --bearer-token-env-var AGENTONBOARD_API_KEY
3. Run: npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -y
4. Verify with whoami tool.OpenCode & Hermes
OpenCode
Run in terminal:
opencode mcp add agentonboard --url https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcpOr add to ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json:
{
"mcp": {
"agentonboard": {
"type": "remote",
"url": "https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_API_KEY>"
}
}
}
}Hermes Agent
Run in terminal:
hermes mcp add agentonboard --url https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcpOr configure in ~/.hermes/config.yaml:
mcp_servers:
agentonboard:
type: http
url: https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp
headers:
Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_API_KEY>Pi & OpenClaw
Pi Agent
export AGENTONBOARD_API_KEY="<YOUR_API_KEY>"
pi mcp add agentonboard --url https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp --bearer-token-env-var AGENTONBOARD_API_KEYOpenClaw
Add to ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json:
{
"mcp": {
"servers": {
"agentonboard": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_API_KEY>"
}
}
}
}
}Headless Environments (Docker & CI/CD)
For GitHub Actions, Docker containers, or autonomous background agents:
- Pass your AgentOnboard key into the container environment:
export AGENTONBOARD_API_KEY="aon_live_..." - Mount or generate the MCP configuration pointing to
https://agentonboard.xyz/api/mcpwithAuthorization: Bearer ${AGENTONBOARD_API_KEY}. - Install the skill in the container startup script:
npx skills add agentonboard/skills -g -a '*' -s '*' -y
Because token minting occurs via HTTPS directly with our Remote MCP server, containers require no local daemon, no host file permissions, and no volume mounts.
Verification & Troubleshooting
Once your agent is configured, verify connectivity by asking it to call the whoami MCP tool.
Run the whoami tool and tell me which AgentOnboard account is connected.The tool will return:
{
"email": "developer@example.com",
"key_prefix": "aon_live_abcd"
}Common Issues
| Symptom | Root Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
get_token tool not found | Agent session was not reloaded after MCP config was written. | Restart the agent session (/exit in Claude Code, reload window in Cursor). |
| 401 Unauthorized from MCP | Key is invalid, revoked, or header format is incorrect. | Ensure the header is exactly Authorization: Bearer aon_live_.... Check key on /dashboard. |
| 403 Forbidden from target service | The token is valid, but the user has no account at that partner. | See the Agent Signup guide or connect your account at the partner's registration URL. |
